Spread Gratefulness

In just over a week, we will celebrate Thanksgiving Day. Suddenly, life is filled with planning, cleaning, shopping, preparing, cooking, people, and laughter. With thoughts of Christmas just around the corner, stress is building.

It’s easy to get carried away in the hustle and bustle and to forget what we’re celebrating—to be intent on checking off to-do lists and forget what we’re doing for.

In the midst of celebration, for many, anger flares. For others, loneliness looms, depression overwhelms.

You can make a difference.

The best way to celebrate Thanksgiving is to be thankful and to spread your thanks.

Gratefulness helps dispel anger and stress. The more grateful you are, the less you feel the stress. As you spread thankfulness to others, it’s good for you and for them.

Send a card thanking someone for what they’ve meant to you.

Thank the clerk in the check-out line for her bright smile, the barista who serves you coffee, or the waitress who serves you food. Thank them for something specific.

Thank your family for smiles, for doing their chores, or for sharing with a sibling.

Thank your parents for being there over the years, for something special they did when you were young, for their care and their love.

When you sit down for a meal, ask others to name one thing they are thankful for.

When you talk with friends, mention something you are grateful for about them.

Being grateful brightens your day. Sharing what you’re grateful for brightens the day for others and spreads sunshine all around.

Don’t settle for turkey and pumpkin pie to celebrate Thanksgiving, celebrate it with a grateful heart that brings smiles to the hearts of others.

You can make a difference, just by being grateful.
